MacConkey agar is a moderate selective medium used for the detection of Enterobacteriaceae or E. coli in pharmaceutical products, food, water and other materials. The composition of the medium, corresponds to the recommendations of the current European Pharmacopoeia (EP) and the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) (harmonized methods) as well as largely to § 64 LFGB.
